Monocoque:
A monocoque chassis supports structural load by using the objects external skin.
This type is common in modern vehicles where the structural member around the windows are strengthened by folding the metal multiple times.
Backbone Tube:
This type of chassis consists of a tube like backbone that connects to the rear suspension.
Advantages include:
- It can withstand torsion twist throughout it's lifespan.
- The vulnerable parts are covered by thick tube.
Disadvantages include:
- Manufacturing the type is complicated and costly.
- The backbone is heavy.

Body-on Frame:
This type of chassis consists of a separate body onto a rigid frame that supports the drive train.
Advantages:
- Easier to design and manufacture than a Unibody e.g. Monocoque.
- Easy to repair after accidents.
Disadvantages:
- It's a heavy structure.
- No crumple zone, so this means that it is quite unsafe.
